John Patton
President and Chief Executive Officer


A co-founder of SiteScout, John directs the company's strategy and business development efforts. Previously, he advised numerous companies as an independent business and product development consultant. Most recently, he shaped development strategy and led new technology development for Precor, Inc.'s Entertainment and Services division. John has also worked with product development consultants Aegis Technologies Group and with Motion Research, developers of head-mounted displays. His startup experience includes Syndeo Systems (logistics software), as well as LST Communications and XNAV (both 3D graphical wireless networked navigation systems). He holds B.A. degrees in Mechanical Engineering and History from Stanford University.


Robert P. Lipschutz
Chief Operating Officer

As a co-founder and COO for SiteScout, Robert oversees industry relationships, product management, and operations. Immediately prior, he worked at Cascadia Labs. He served as director of technology at Viant, CTO and founder at Meca Communications, and president and CTO of Thing 7. And between 1992 and 1996, Robert directed networking testing and analysis at PC Magazine. An expert with more than 15 years experience evaluating and building technology products for consumers and enterprises, his consulting clients have included Kinko's, Bank of America, JP Morgan, and Microsoft. Robert has in-depth experience with anti-virus, anti-spyware, host intrusion prevention, firewall, and Web filtering technologies. He holds a B.S. in Chemistry with Honors from the University of California, Berkeley.


John Clyman
Chief Technology Officer

In his role as CTO, John leads development of SiteScout's system for performing scalable, automated website contamination assessment. Immediately prior to co-founding SiteScout, he worked with Robert at Cascadia Labs, where he built internal tools used for building malware and URL filtering databases and for assessing websites. These technologies were transferred to SiteScout at its inception. For over 14 years, John has performed and overseen critical product assessments for leading technology companies, venture-capital firms, publications, and e-commerce operations. Since 2004, he has intensively examined malware mitigation techniques and products. He holds a B.A. in Psychology from Cornell University.


John Blackburn
VP of Business Development

With 21 years of successful sales and business development experience, John will drive SiteScout's business relationships with key software, hardware, and services vendors. Most recently, John managed technology alliances at Aventail Corporation where he negotiated OEM contracts and established key technology partnerships with companies such as Motorola, Palm, Microsoft, Symantec, and Phoenix Technologies. Prior to Aventail, John drove OEM licensing activity and managed partner relationships at Widevine Technologies and F5 Networks. John also held senior asset management positions with various national real estate development and management firms where he conducted over $200 million worth of transactions. He holds an MBA from the University of Southern California and a B.S. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley.


Board of Advisors

Larry Hughes, Jr.
The former head of Amazon.com's worldwide Information Security team, Larry is a twenty-year Internet veteran, and a successful author. At Amazon.com, he made notable contributions between 1999 through 2006, playing instrumental roles in regulatory and industry compliance efforts including Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 and Payment Card Industry/Data Security Standard (PCI/DSS). He is the author of Actually Useful Internet Security Techniques (1995), and a contributor to five other books. Larry is now the founder and principal at INFOSEC Introspect Inc., a consultancy that advises venture capitalists, startups, and mature businesses.

Bruce Leader
A member of SiteScout's Advisory Board, Bruce is actively involved with the company's leadership team. Previously, he was President and CEO of PowerTech, providing security software for audit, compliance reporting, and access control; and held the same role at Syncronex, a directory services software company. Bruce was part of the senior leadership team at Mosaix, which was later acquired by Lucent. At IBM, he served as Vice President of SMB for its Western Region and General Manager for the Pacific Northwest. Bruce holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Brown University and an M.B.A. in Finance with Honors from the University of Connecticut.
